Overview

Nestled along the picturesque Fondamenta de Borgo in Venice, Antica Locanda Montin offers a dining experience steeped in tradition and history. This restaurant, embraced by nearly every wall’s paintings and a charming, spacious garden, invites guests into a world that honors Venetian culinary heritage. It’s a place where time seems to pause, preserving recipes and flavors that have shaped the region’s identity for decades.

The menu is a trip through classic Venetian fare. Signature dishes like Spaghetti Con Le Vongole Veraci, Baby Octopus with Oil and Lemon, and Baccalà Mantecato showcase the region’s reliance on fresh seafood and simple, robust ingredients. The presence of Fegato Alla Veneziana and Bigoi In Salsa pays homage to historic Venetian tastes, while delicacies like Spaghetti Al Nero Di Seppia and Antipasto Pesce Misto Caldo highlight the culinary craftsmanship the kitchen upholds. For those with a sweet tooth, desserts such as Panna Cotta and Tiramisu complete the experience with finesse.

Antica Locanda Montin's charm extends beyond its food. The garden offers a tranquil retreat from Venice’s busy streets, providing an ideal setting for relaxed meals when weather allows. Inside, the traditional décor enhances the storybook atmosphere, though some may find it yearning for modern touches. The service, notably polite and attentive, adds quietly to the comfort of the visit.

This restaurant is best suited for those who appreciate culinary roots and a historical ambiance. While some diners might seek more adventurous or contemporary cuisine, Antica Locanda Montin stays loyal to its Venetian legacy without interruption. It may lack seasonal innovation or modern reinterpretations, but what it offers is authenticity wrapped in nostalgia. Visitors looking for an authentic slice of Venice’s gastronomic past will find this place rewarding.

Conveniently located near the Accademia Bridge and accessible by vaporetto, the restaurant is a perfect stop for travelers eager to explore Venice’s art and canals while savoring local flavors. Its quiet, budget-conscience accommodation options make it a practical choice, though some amenities like in-room Wi-Fi may be limited.

In sum, Antica Locanda Montin is a firm anchor in Venice’s sea of dining options—timeless, respectful of its origins, and quietly elegant. It invites you to savor Venetian classics as they have been cherished across generations, within walls that whisper their rich stories.

A very okay, budget experience. If you have the cash, opt for something a bit less budget and don't go here. The only actual issue was our room's shower head was completely broken, leaking, and had this mechanism where you could move it up and down, but it kept sliding down. AC worked, bed was fine, they had extra pillows and cleaning services. The big con (not necessarily an issue) was that wifi does not work in their rooms - only their common areas - and we had to use data to look up places to go and directions for Venice. Have no idea why they did that, but once again - you're staying at a budget place. Would not stay here again but am not recommending against it if you're alright with these issues or bringing them up with staff.

Antica Locanda Montin is, as its name suggests, a historical inn, still offering both accommodation and food. The restaurant and décor are steeped in nostalgia, perhaps to a fault. This review is strictly for the restaurant. The main dining room is dark and very traditional, with paintings covering nearly every wall. It could certainly use a modern refresh. The garden, its best feature, is genuinely lovely and surprisingly spacious, especially by Venetian standards. The service is polite, which in Venice qualifies as a minor miracle. The main issue is the food. The restaurant is rooted in tradition, but unfortunately, also stuck in it. The menu is so firmly anchored in the past, it seems to have missed several culinary movements, including most of the last seven decades. The same tired Venetian classics are trotted out, lovingly untouched by innovation or whim. No seasonal variation, no playful reinterpretation, just the same dishes, again and again. I can’t imagine the existential dread of being a chef here. While most restaurants now respond to the rhythms of nature, shifting menus by the week or even by the day, Antica Locanda Montin remains immovable. Its menu changes not by season, but by era, and the era in question appears to be post-war austerity. Elsewhere, restaurants accommodate dietary needs with grace and creativity. Here, asking for a vegetarian or vegan option feels like you’re getting less, not something different of equal value. It’s a real pity. The place still radiates charm, and its story is tied to great names in the arts. One only wishes they would breathe some fresh air into both the décor and the cuisine ... the place deserves it.

Nice location, quiet rooms and a great restaurant. It's a 3-star but a really good one. Close to Academia bridge, vaporetto stops and only four stops to St-Mark's. You can even walk around Venice from here with a good map and a great sense of direction (honestly, this place is a maze).

We had lunch in this restaurant today and I am very happy about taking this decision. If you are lucky with the weather, the garden is very beautiful. The food is delicious. Lots of local people, which is always a good sign. It was a little pricey for us (35-40€ per person), but this is relative. Our waiter was very friendly, but it’s always a matter of luck…
